Eligibility Criteria Nationality:
- Candidate must be
a citizen of India.
a citizen of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan.
Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 to be settled permanently in India Candidate must be a person of Indian Origin who has migrated from Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Myanmar, Pakistan, Vietnam, Zaire, or Zambia with an intention of permanently settling in India.
Minimum Educational Qualifications
The minimum education for the candidates must hold a degree of any of University.
A UPSC candidate must have 21 years old and must not have less than 32 years old on the 1st of August, 2017.
Number of Attempts:
Every eligible candidate shall be permitted only six attempts at the UPSC examination. This attempt restriction will not apply in the case of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates.

- SC/ST Candidates = Unlimited
Exam Important Dates:
The Civil Services Examination will consist of two successive stages.
(i) The Civil Services Preliminary Examination is an Objective type. This exam for the selection of UPSC candidates for the Main Examination; and
(ii) The Civil Services Main Examination which is Written type and after clear the main exam an Interview for the selection of candidates for the various Civil Services and posts.
Selection Procedure of civil services exam will complete in given below 3 stages:
First Stage: Preliminary examination
- A qualifying test advertised in May and held in August every year.
- In Mid October results are published.
Second Stage: Main examination
- Held in December every year.
- In the second week of March, results are usually published.
Third & final Stage: Personality Test (an interview)
- Held in April/May each year.
- In May the final results are usually announced.
Exam Pattern for Civil Services:
There will be a Test Series A, B, C & D in the civil services 2017 re-examination. The civil service question paper will be multi-choice MCQ type questions. The question paper will in English & Hindi both language. There will be negative marking for each wrong answer that is 1/3.
- The Pre IAS Exam will have two papers:
- General Studies, 400 marks,
- Civil Service Aptitude Test, 200 marks.
- Both the papers will be MCQ type.
- The question will be in both English and Hindi language.
- The time duration of the Prelims Exam will be 2 hours.
- For qualifying Paper-II of Pre Exam, candidates need to secure minimum qualifying marks of 33 %.

The PDF format of the Civil Services Exam Result will be published on the official website of UPSC. The result will be displayed after successful completion of 2017 examination. The candidates will find their roll no. from the downloaded PDF file. Only the successful applicants of pre exam will be eligible for the Main exam. The Main Exam will be held in the month of October 2017. The Main examination result of Civil Services Main exam will have displayed in the month of February 2018.

The candidates will have to pay Rs 100 for applying to the IAS 2017 examination (except female/SC/ST/PH candidates).
